GOOGLE APPS FOR EDUCATION

The Google suite of apps offers a range of online tools to promote collaboration among students and educators. Below you'll find some basic information on how to get started using Google tools.
You all have a Google account using your current NPS email address as the username. Check with me about the password if you've forgotten it and need to have it reset.

The Basics
Google Drive is an online storage area "in the cloud" which means you have access to all of your files from any computer, anywhere. There are also apps for smart phones and tablets that allow you to create files and view and edit saved Drive files.
Google Docs is a word processing creator similar to MS Word or Pages.
Google Sheets is a spreadsheet creator similar to MS Excel or Numbers.
Google Slides is a presentation creator similar to PowerPoint or Keynote.
Google Forms is a form creator similar to Survey Monkey.
You will need a Gmail account to set up Drive. Your students will not need a Gmail account to view files if you share them.

Getting started with google drive
This is a lengthy video (almost 20 minutes!) but it offers a great overview of Google Drive. Included are how to create different file types, how to share and rename files, and how to organize files within your drive account. Well worth the time to watch!
Google Drive for Teachers
This tutorial is especially useful for those teachers who may want to share Google files and folders with their students. It offers some great tips for organizing folders for different classes and changing the settings so students only have the ability to "view" your master copies. I LOVE the idea of using a Google Form to collect assignments from students! This is a super resource if you are a middle school or high school teacher!
